Looking for Children’s Choir Director

Rocky River United Methodist Church is seeking a highly qualified, energetic Children’s Choir Director.

RRUMC has a long-standing tradition of high quality music, with a chancel choir, two handbell choirs, a praise team and two children’s choirs.

The position is part time, approximately 3-6 hours a week plus 40 hours for the week of Vacation Bible School. Compensation to be determined based on successful candidate’s qualifications.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan engaging and exciting music for children’s choir, recruit children to sing in the choir, rehearse with children on a weekly basis during the school year, conduct the children once a month on Sunday mornings, including Easter Sunday, Christmas Eve, and other dates planned with the Director of Music. In addition, the successful candidate will lead children’s worship service on the first Sunday of the month and work closely with Children’s Ministry Director for Vacation Bible School the last week of June.

Administrative Requirements:

  • Recruit children, be in close contact with families regarding rehearsal times and performances, plan and initiate a musical performance/production once a year.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Music degree preferred, excellent rapport with children, patience with young children, excellent communication skills essential.

Skills:

  • Experience leading choirs, working with children, piano or guitar proficiency for rehearsals.

  • Needs to be creative with engaging children through an online platform to begin initial contact with children during COVID-19.

Accountability:

  • The successful candidate will be responsive to emails and communications with parents to keep children engaged in the music program at RRUMC.

  • Must work closely with music director to plan music calendar for the church, special events and programs.

Beliefs:

  • The successful candidate will be a practicing Christian and have a strong ability to teach children about Christ through music.
